3 The Great Sphinx of Giza is a half man half lion statue. Legend says that the Sphinx could talk and would always ask a riddle “ What has 4 legs in the morning, 2 in the afternoon and 3 at night?” all who answered wrong were killed. Until once a man said “ A man, it crawls as a baby, walks as a boy and uses a stick as elderly.” The Sphinx replied “ correct” and killed itself.

4  The Great Pyramid of Giza was made in honour of king Khufu.  It is the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world.  The Great Pyramid’s ancient name is Khufu’s Horizon.  The Great Pyramids co – ordinates are 29 58’45.03’N 31 08’03.69’E.  The Great Pyramid is a true pyramid.  The Great Pyramid is 146.5 metres high ( 481ft ).

5  Most peasants worked as slaves ( women ) or soldiers ( men ).  Slaves were paid in radishes and garlic.  If you were building a pyramid and not working hard enough you would be beaten with whips.  Pharaohs would be buried with dead slaves to help them in the afterlife.  Egyptians used to just wrap dead pharaohs in cloth and leave them to rot. ( Nasty surprise if you were stealing riches ). It was chefs that taught them mummifying.

6  Valley of the kings contains 63 tombs.  The valley is famous for the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb.
