2   Welcome to my powerpoint on ancient Egypt.  In this powerpoint you will read about civilisation, farming, pharaohs, homes and more.  I hope you enjoy. Introduction

3   Allot of Egyptians were farmers and were also very poor.  The most important people were the pharaohs then came the priests, nobles and the least important were the slaves.  Most poor people lived in houses made of mud brick and had about 4 rooms but rich people houses had up to seventy rooms. Lifestyle

4   There is a lot of very famous structures and buildings still standing today that were built during Ancient Egyptian times example The Pyramids Of Giza. There are also some that are not standing such as The Lighthouse of Alexandria. Architecture

5   There were a lot of pharaohs in ancient Egypt some well known ones were Khufu, Tutankhamen, Hatshepsut, Thutmose and Ramesses.  People built many great structures in honour of their Pharaohs. They built pyramids, lifelike structures and half man half lion statues. Pharaohs

6   The Egyptian people had many different varieties of food such as bread, beef, wine, meat, fruit and honey. Beer was made from stale bread and it was then strained.Meat was also known as geese and fish. Food was eaten with peoples hands because they had no cutlery. Food and drink

7   There were eight steps of mummification and it took a lot of time to complete.  The people were specially trained and got in priests to say prayers for the dead Pharaoh. They took the brain out of the dead Pharaoh’s nose! They then had to wash them in natron for forty days [a special type of salt]. Once everything was done they put him in a coffin. Mummification

8   When Khufu was the Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt he ordered people to build a great pyramid in honour of him. It was believed that 100,000 people built it. It was made out of 2 million blocks of limestone and some of those blocks weighed as much as 400 men! It took 20 years to complete. The Great Pyramid

9   The Egyptians believed in many gods and had a lot of statues, structures and monuments for them. It was one of the most important things in life. The people were very religious. Two important gods were,  Osiris, god of the sun.  Ra, god of the Nile. Religion

10   Tutankhamen was born in ancient Egypt in the year 1341 B.C. He was leader of ancient Egypt for nine years people think that he was assassinated but others believe he fell off a horse. Nobody will ever know for sure though. His tomb was found in the year 1922 by Howard Carter and was intact for more than 3000 years! Tutankhamen

11   The Sphinx is a half man half lion statue believed to have been built in the year 2532 B.C.It is one of the oldest structures standing to this day. It was built in the honour of the Pharaoh Khafra. It has been standing for almost 4000 years. It was also covered under the sand for a while until somebody excavated it up. It is situated beside the second Great Pyramid of Giza. The Sphinx

12   The pharaoh Khufu ruled during the fourth dynasty of the old kingdom. He was the second pharaoh to rule during the fourth dynasty. The great Pyramid of Giza was built for him and is now one of the seven wonders of the world. It isn’t clear how long he ruled for as scientists haven’t found out yet. Khufu

13   Without the River Nile there would have been no life in Ancient Egypt. The people grew their crops there, drank water from there, kept cool there and sent messages and packages along the river to get to the Pharaoh. A plant called papyrus was often grown along the banks of The River Nile. During September the Nile would burst its banks and would create rich, thick mud. The River Nile

14   There were eight different types of people and they were:  The Pharaoh,  Priests,  Nobles,  Merchants  Crafts people,  Farmers,  Labourers,  And the slaves were the least important. Hierarchy
