Dodman BVMS, DVA, DACVAA, DACVD Chief Scientific Officer, CCBS Everyone knows that Dog is Man’s best friend. So why is it then that so many dog lovers bring new dogs into their homes each year only to eventually surrender them when their dreams of “happily ever after” appear out of reach? The relationship between you and your dog is like any living relationship. It is dynamic and largely influenced by personalities, circumstance, daily interactions and understanding. Become a Corporate Sponsor Make a Donation ResourcesMedia Information “Help me to help you improve your relationship with your dog.” When the interactions are positive, dogs bond with their humans and form healthy loving relationships. They learn what is expected of them and how they can please their humans. Even good dogs can act out – for attention, or simply because they don’t understand what we want from them. And sometimes, compatibility can be an issue. Try as they may, dog and owner simply cannot get along. It is our belief that the specific personality traits of a certain breed may be better suited to the personality of certain owners – and we believe that our Animal Ownership Interaction Study can help determine which breeds are most compatible with specific types of owners. This study will help us to better understand the direct link between human personality, situational dynamics, and dog behavior. Before the adoption takes place, it is our sincere hope that this information can lead to better pairings between owner and dog, resulting in a happier, more harmonious home. Every year, millions of good dogs are surrendered to shelters – and very often, bad behavior is to blame. Ultimately, many of those dogs are killed. Information is power. With your help, our findings can help future dog owners find their “happily ever after” with their dogs. About Us © 2015, The Simon Foundation, Inc. All rights reserved. Yes, I want to help!
