NOF ICT Training Providers Day Scottish experience: It’s a mixed economy of training Flexibility and responsiveness to individual training needs Libraries want value for money It’s taking longer than we thought

What the Managers say “Staff are mixed in terms of ability and speed of progress. Flexibility is crucial in terms of confidence building and allowing staff to study at their own pace. We have found that those staff members who have passed their ECDL or undertaken advanced training have been very supportive of colleagues who may be experiencing some difficulty.”

What the Managers say “It has become clear that there is no one answer and no one pace. An understanding of individual learning needs and a choice of delivery styles is essential.”

What the Managers say “Finding a suitable trainer to train in the supplementary outcomes has not been easy but we were fortunate to have found one recommended by another Authority….The training delivered has been of a very high quality and the tutor support has been excellent.”

What the library staff say “The Internet is popular and busy. It’s booked solid. I’ve used my NOF training in helping people doing word processing and using the Internet. People are really appreciative of staff help.” “We use our NOF training every day.”

What the library staff say “Before the training I would avoid using the PC whenever possible. However since the training I am more confident and have bought a home PC on which I access the Internet and produce a newsletter for a local club.” “I can now see the relevance of the ICT training to my library work.”

What the library staff say “This course has been a tremendous help to me. As a single parent with two young school children the need for “IT” training is an essential part of life now. Thanks to the trainer’s patience and teaching skills I now feel ready to tackle this new technology. She has been a great help and very approachable.”

What the public say “Member of staff was a saint when dealing with an elderly lady on the internet.” “Thank goodness the library has caught up with the 21 st century.” “It has changed my life.”
