5 According to research, 98% of all adults have heard about organ donation and 86% have heard of tissue donation. 90% of Americans say they support donation But only 30% know the essential steps to take to be a donor.

7 Organ and Tissue Registry Confidential computerized database maintained by Missouri’s Department of Health and Human Services. The registry is accessible to medial personnel and organ and tissue bank staff. Adding your name to the registry is called First Person Consent and is considered legal documentation. A majority of registrants in Missouri’s organ and tissue registry have joined at the DMV when obtaining or renewing their driver’s license. However, anyone can join the registry 24/7 online at www.donatelifemissouri.com or by filling our a paper form that is returned to the state. www.donatelifemissouri.com This is where holding a donor drive can become a successful way of educating the public about donation and encouraging individuals to join the registry!

9 Donor Registration Drive: Things to consider Event location – foot traffic, place for conversations Event type – health screening, fundraisers for Lions clubs Booth space Registration type – paper or computer Audience – Signature of a parent or legal guardian is required for individuals under the age of 18 Please make sure to always get permission from the coordinator of the event or manager of the location to hold a donor drive before proceeding.

10 Donor Registration Drive: Logistics for setup Once your group has identified a location, date and time for the registration, please contact our PR staff at 800-283-1982 so we can promote the event. We will: Put it on our web site calendar Put it on the state’s donor registry calendar at Promote the event on our own social media accounts

12 Donor Registration Drive: Educating about Donation Start a conversation by simply asking an individual if they are on the Missouri organ and tissue donor registry. Often people will have questions for you. Many will have pre- conceived notions about donation and have heard many myths. It’s ok to say “I don’t know”.

13 It’s more then just a donor registration drive… It’s knowing that you will get to see your grandchild hit a home run because you received the gift of a cornea transplant. It’s knowing that your spouse can continue living an active lifestyle because they received the gift of a tissue transplant.
