5 Content Management Systems What is a Content Management System, or CMS? A computer application used to create, edit, manage, search, and publish various kinds of digital media and electronic text

6 Content Management Systems What is Content? In essence: any type or “unit“ of digital information It can be text, images, graphics, video, sound, documents, records etc.  anything in an electronic format

The management of content by combining rules, processes, workflows  A CMS is a tool that enables technical and non technical staff to create, manage and finally publish a variety of content, while being constrained by a set of rules that ensure coherent, validated electronic content.

19 E- learning E- learning: Technology supported education/learning, medium of instruction is through computer technology “pedagogy empowered by digital technology” E- learning and blended learning Growing usage in education and training of employees

20 E- learning E- learning takes place mostly by using e- learning platforms (these are all CMS’!) or by using independent Web 2.0 tools like fora and blogs

22 Blogs Blog Short form of “Weblog” (compiled of the words “web” for Internet and “log” for logbook) a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video

23 Blogs Blogs as tools for e- learning The teacher gives exercises, the results have to be presented at the student’s personal blog Blogs are usually part of e- learning platforms or free software is used for this purpose

36 RSS- Feeds What is an RSS- Feed? Abbreviation for Really Simple Syndification Family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works – blog or forum entries, news headlines etc. Keep readers up to date quickly from favoured websites

38 RSS- Reader: Used to read RSS- feeds Can be included in Browsers, e- mail programmes or is used as a special programme Checks the user’s subscribed feeds regularly for new work, downloads updates and proviedes a user interface

39 RSS- Feeds Now we will subscribe to RSS- Feeds of the Matilda Forum. Please got to www.google.com to get yourwww.google.com own feed reader.

41 Please sign in now, and follow the link that was sent to your e- mail account to activate your google reader. Please go to the internal Forum of the Matilda web page and click on the RSS- logo. Now you can add the news feed to your reader and are always up to date!
