2 Goal: To discuss how involving our children in the upkeep of our living spaces develops character and good work habits.  Why daily jobs?  Job Charts  Tips and Projects  Table Talk

3  Develops work ethic  Teaches responsibility  Makes the child feel a part of the family  Teaches time management  Gives value to money

4  Provides structure and order  Develops a habit of picking up after themselves Clean as they go

5  Keeping commitments  Seeing a job through from start to finish  Doing things correctly the first time  Encourages initiative

6  Fit chores into busy schedule  Set priorities  Plan how to do a task efficiently

7  Many children have no concept of where money comes from  Set goals to earn things they want

8 How well do you want the job done?  Demonstrate how to do the job  Model the quality you want  Reward quality  Redo poor jobs

9  List the chores  Daily  Every few days  Weekly  Assign a value to each chore  Either points or cash  Check off each completed task  Pay at the end of the week or period as agreed  Delayed gratification

12 Our children are busy, so we must make being neat and orderly a priority.  Saves time spent looking for things  Sets habits and discipline that carry over into other areas of their lives  Teaches the importance of managing time well

13  Stick to your schedule  Stick to your standards  Know what you will negotiate, how much and only do so rarely  Do not reward unfinished, sloppy or chores you have had to constantly remind your child to do.  No matter how cute they are!

14  Contests  Who can fold faster  Who can finish faster  Who is does the neatest job  Who cleans up after cleaning up  the job is not finished until everything is put back where it came from

15 Chores can provide skill practice  Matching socks: memory skills  Folding, Wiping, pushing: motor skills  Putting away: memory, motor skills  Instills order  Neatness becomes the way things are done
