14 Highlights - Communications integrated: MPI, PROFIBUS-DP interface
Interfaces MPI integrated into every CPU DP in DP, DP, DP Programming from any point in the network (Routing) HMI services for connection of OP/OS no additional programming minimal CPU cycle load Communications functions for S7 Low-cost communication without the need for additional hardware PG (Master) ET200M (Slave) ET 200B/L (Slave) ET200S (Slave) ET200X (Slave) S7-300 PROFIBUS DP Highlights The integrated DP interface on the CPU saves an additional IM or a CP, up to 32 DP slaves can be controlled. A new PG routing function offers considerably higher operating convenience in hierarchically structured networks. In this way, a programming device connected to a hierarchical network (Industrial Ethernet, PROFIBUS, MPI) can reach any CPU - even beyond network boundaries - and can execute, for example, on-line functions. Within the framework of the HMI services, the CPU autonomously sends the required cyclic values to the OS/OP; this information is available even when the CPU is at STOP. The communication functions are handled via programmable standard function blocks. This saves user memory and programming overhead. The load on the CPU cycle is minimal. Global data: Just as the input/output data are automatically and cyclically transferred to the I/Os via the process image, global communication involves transferring smaller amounts of data automatically and cyclically to other CPUs on the MPI network and in multicomputing racks. There is no programming involved – simple configuring in a Wizard is all that is necessary! Functions according to the Producer-Consumer concept! S7 communication: For medium to large amounts of data whose transfer is to be coordinated by the user in his program – even via Ethernet! Now "cross-traffic" is possible between DP slaves, which means that slaves connected to the PROFIBUS-DP can communicate without going via the master, thus avoiding additional load on the master. What is more, the "equidistant cycle" for the PROFIBUS-DP permits the creation of uniform and predictable cycles. This is required, for example, for synchronized controls and Motion Control applications.

15 Highlights - Engineering
Efficient configuring and programming with world standard STEP 7 IEC Highlights Higher availability thanks to powerful integrated diagnostics Availability Easiest start imaginable with STEP 7 Lite - the programming package for basic functions Intuitive operating

16 Highlights - Test and diagnostics functions
System diagnostics System wide fault diagnostics from CPU to I/O Internal CPU services (e.g. error message with time stamp) Shorten down times Highlights Increase productivity Process diagnostics Monitoring critical process signals at the program level Simply assign parameters using S7-PDIAG and ProAgent CPU generates messages automatically for S7 HMI for more transparency for service personnel The internal CPU services show, for example, the memory allocation or the cycle load. Events that occur (e.g. faults/errors) are entered in a diagnostic buffer (non-erasable ring buffer, expandable up to more than 120 entries) together with a time stamp. The fault diagnostics can detect the following faults: Front connector not inserted Polarity reversal, overload Short-circuit, wire break No load voltage Defective module, and so on. During configuring of the process diagnostics, the required program or process response is assigned to the critical variables (for instance tank termperature too high, limit switch overrun). Associated messages are displayed in the process displays generated by ProAgent.
