8. 4 th Year Clinical Skills Week All 4 th year Galveston and Houston based medical students will be required to take Point of Care Testing (POCT) on June 22, 2015. This is a MANDATORY activity. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) requires that all unlicensed healthcare providers take this training yearly.

Emergency Medicine is a Selective Locally – Galveston, St. Joseph, Austin Rules for elsewhere: The selective can be done: Anywhere with established EM residency program At a U.S. university, med school based, or community EM department with a supervising ED physician sponsoring the student. Dr. Mileski must approve Selective cannot be done at an ambulatory acute care facility where EMS are not allowed to bring patients.

A word about absences More than 3 = course failure unless prior arrangements made Absences for interviews are just like other absences You still need to graduate from medical school In a 4 week course, missing 3 days already means missing 15% of the days Plan ahead – is there a reasonable way to make up work?
