Stage One: Teacher Directed Whole Group Instruction Explicit Teaching of Comprehension Strategies Stage Two A: Student Facilitated activities that allow students to apply and reflect upon their knowledge of comprehension strategies. (small groups, pairs, independent work) Stage Two B: Student Facilitated Meetings Students engage in Reciprocal Teaching and Literature Circle discussions. Stage Two C: Teacher Facilitated Guided Comprehension Groups. Teachers review Comprehension Strategies. Students are guided in applying the strategies. Students then apply the strategy whilst observed by the teacher. Students reflect upon how the strategy helped them to understand the text. Stage Three: Teacher Facilitated Whole Group Reflection and Goal Setting. Students reflect on how they used comprehension strategies to help them understand texts. Students set goals for the next Guided Comprehension Session.
