INTD 59 intro to kitchen & bath design bathroom electrical, lighting & Title 24 CODE: At least one wall-switch controlled light must be provided in the kitchen and bath. Switch must be placed at the entrance.

lighting for tubs and showers need a good general light that is listed for wet locations

lighting for tubs and showers recessed luminaires render the upper-third of shower or tub area a little dimmer do a better job of reducing glare allow the use of higher wattage bulbs CODE: All light fixtures installed within tub and shower spaces should be rated and marked “suitable for damp/wet locations”. Switches shall not be installed within wet locations in tub or shower spaces or within reach while standing in the tub or shower unless installed as part of the listed tub or shower assembly.

CODE: Hanging fixtures [such as chandeliers over tubs] cannot be located within a zone of 3 feet horizontally and 8 feet vertically from the top of the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold.

ambient lighting indirect lighting adds a warm overall glow wall sconces cove lighting can find both in fluorescent or led lamps to comply with title 24 if higher ceilings, pendant- hung units are also a consideration

skylights supplement/replace ambient lighting during day: white opal acrylic UV filters specified if light-well is deep enough, low-maintenance fluorescent/led strip-lights can be used to keep skylight lit at night

exhaust fans not required if operable windows nice to have to remove steam and odors make sure to specify separate switching for light & fan— if allowed by code
