2  The first ten amendments to the Constitution are called the Bill of Rights  They were ratified in 1791

3  Contains five freedoms  1. Freedom of Religion- This establishes that there is no national religion.  Separation of Church and state

4  2. Freedom of Speech- protects peoples speech with two exceptions Slander- Knowingly making false statements about someone that damages their reputation Speech that may harm others

5  3. Freedom of the press- Can express ideas in the press (media)  Doesn’t protect against libel  Libel- Publishing lies about someone

6  4. Freedom of petition- Can ask the government to take action or change something

7  5. Freedom of Assembly- People can gather peacefully

8 Describe the Bill of Rights. Secondly, identify the five freedoms granted in the first amendment. Next, explain any limits to these freedoms. Finally, detail which of these freedoms you feel is most important and why?
