1 Findley Oaks Elementary Math Team/Club

2 Welcome Mathlete Parents
Basic Information Welcome Mathlete Parents When: Wednesday (weekly) J135-J137 September, 3rd through- April 29th (excluding all school holidays) Time: 2:30-3:50 Grades: 2-5 Capacity (70) students A wait list fill be created once the session is full.

3 Program Details Participants will be grouped into two groups and 4-5. Students will be divided into groups of 4 and given a challenge worksheet. The students will be given the answers at the end of the session. This has NO connection with their regular math class.

4 Enrollment Details Students may enroll/join this program through August 29th. Students are allowed to quit/drop out at anytime. However, once your student has dropped out, no re-entry will be permitted. A student on the wait list will be admitted.

5 Math Kangaroo Our school is enrolled as a Math Kangaroo Center. Students enrolled/participating in Math Team will need to join Math Kangaroo. (There is a 20 dollar fee for this.) We will be getting our curriculum through this resource. Your student will need to enroll before using the on-line component of this program. A Math Kangaroo completion will be held on March 19th.

6 Competitions February 28th- Findley Oaks Invitational Math Tournament
4th and 5th grade qualifying students only. A 4th and 5th grade Math Team will represent our school. March 19th- Math Kangaroo-all students participate. April 15 or later- Math League-all students participate. 4th and 5th grade math students April 25th- Cheetah Cup Math Olympiad (Held at Creekview Elementary) 4th and 5th grade qualifying students only. A 4th and 5th grade Math Team will represent our school.

7 What Math Team is NOT 1. A regular after school program. 2. A professional math training course. 3. A program aiming to enhance students’ curriculum math score. 4. An on-level math tutor program.

8 Discipline Students will be expected to respect all school rules. If a student fails to follow school disciplines, or fails to demonstrate a cooperative behavior and attitude, a conference will take place with the parents and a warning given. If the student continues with any gross infraction of Fulton County Schools policies or codes of student conduct, the coach reserves the right to dismiss the student.

9 Fees and Costs The PTA has funded the initial cost of the scheduled meeting sessions, training materials, related classroom usage costs, and enrolment in the Math League Competition. For all other competitions, the family will be responsible for registration fees, travel costs, and costs for food and drinks.

10 Parent Volunteers Duties will include:
Parents are expected to volunteer/assist with our weekly Wednesday practices. Duties will include: Making copies Assisting with the practices Dismissal Mrs. Wang has put together a list of volunteer opportunities. She will be forwarding it to the parents…..let her know if you have a conflict.

11 Parent Volunteers As a parent volunteer at Findley Oaks Elementary you will need to participate in a mandatory training. Can be found on the Fulton County School website or a link can be located at the bottom of the Findley Oaks Elementary website. It takes about minutes. Must be completed 48 hours before volunteering for the system to update the information.

12 Dismissal Students may be released to YMCA or will be dismissed by carpool. Parents will need to have a carpool number. Parents will not be able to pick students up from the classroom. No one will be at the front desk to let you in. If someone not listed on your dismissal form picks up your child a note must be presented. And your child must be signed out and a drivers license must be presented. Pick up time is 3:50. In case of an emergency, if you are running late, immediately. There is a possibility that no-one will answer the front desk phone line after 4PM.
