6 Mission w The mission of the college of Computer Sciences and Engineering is: w To prepare competent professionals in the areas specified in college line of business who are competitive worldwide and will be the leaders in Saudi industry, academia and government. w To conduct innovative basic and applied research that advances the frontiers of knowledge and address local problems. w To provide high quality service to society in the areas of applied projects, consultation and training.

11 Performance Indicators w Objective 1 : Prepare competent qualified graduates in the areas specified in the college line of business that meet or exceed customer requirements.. Alumni satisfaction, Employer satisfaction, Median score in outcome exams and median score in professional society exams. w Objective 2 : Provide up to date current academic programs that meet international standards and satisfy market needs. Employment rate, curriculum currency (median time between revisions, number of new approved special topics and course per year), conformance to international society recommendations accreditation.

12 Performance Indicators w Objective 3 : Provide a student focused integrated educational experience : Student success rate, program completion rate, average class size, Student faculty ratio, Alumni satisfaction rate with educational experience. w Objective 4 : Build a strong, motivated and highly committed faculty community: Faculty retention rate, Faculty development programs, faculty satisfaction survey.

13 Performance Indicators w Objective 5: Attract, Maintain and develop a qualified pool Median RAM I score for students joining the college, % of honors students, Average time to complete program. w Objective 6 : Conduct research at the frontiers of knowledge in computer sciences and engineering with emphasis on areas that serve and sustain the Kingdom economic development Journal publication index, conference publication index, research grant/Projects and patents/recognition/ award index calculated at the college level.

17 Key Processes w Undergraduate and graduate Students admission. w Teaching and delivery of course materials. w Faculty recruitment and retention. w Curriculum development and revision process. w Project approval process. w Faculty Promotion process w Conference approval process.

18 Implementation Approach w The implementation process will follow the following steps: w Establish Yearly goals (targets) based on the current status of each strategic objective as measured by the key performance indicators. w For each target established a set of action plan to be implemented during the course of the year to achieve the target.

19 SP Implementation Approach w Assess the progress bimonthly. w Assess the status at the end of the year in a management review and develop a set of action plans for the next year. w Continue the above steps on yearly basis.

23 College Role w The college shall establish committees to assist in accomplishing the objectives of the SP. In the SP plan there are eight (8) strategic objectives. Some of these committees are at the departmental level while others at the college level. Utmost care must be exercised in order to minimize duplication.

24 Departmental Role w It is also recommended that each department shall establish the following committees: w Graduating students and Alumni committee to implement objective 1 of the SP. w Curriculum committee to implement objective 2 (This committee already exists). Its charges may require modification w Graduate and Research committee to implement objective 6 and part of objective 5. (This committee already exists. Its charges may require modification. w Student affairs committee to implement objective 5 of the SP. w Other committees necessary for the department business.

25 SP Implementation w Each committee responsible for a strategic objective shall review in the first month the current status of the objective in the department or the college utilizing the performance measures in the SP. w Based on the level of the performance indicators a goal for the objective will be established and an action plan will be developed to achieve the goal. The plan should specify tasks, resources needed and schedule.

26 SP Implementation w The Department or the college administration must provide the resources to achieve the objectives of the project. w Based on the schedule the college/department council should monitor and review progress.

27 SP Implementation w The following committees are suggested to be at the college level: w Learning and Teaching Committee to assist in implementing objective 3 in the SP. w Faculty Committee to assist in implementing objective 4 of the SP. w College Infrastructure committee to assist in implementing objective 8. w College out reach committee to assist in implementing objective 7.

28 SP Implementation w Graduating students and Alumni committee to implement objective 1 of the SP. w Curriculum committee to implement objective 2 (This committee already exists). 29 Example w Let us consider objective Objective 6 : Conduct research at the frontiers of knowledge in computer sciences and engineering with emphasis on areas that serve and sustain the Kingdom economic development Journal publication index, conference publication index, research grant/Projects and patents/recognition/ award index calculated at the college level.

30 Example w Suppose in X department the current publication index is 0.5 and grants and projects index is 0.4. w The target established is one for each index. w What action plan must be taken to reach the target.

31 Example: Action Plans w Action Pan: Identify faculty members that need help. Develop a special grants for them. Summer grants with industry. w Resources needed: Financial Industry support Etc.
