1 The first part of a WebQuest is the INTRODUCTION:  it serves as a motivating device  it frames the research problem  it gives the students an important role to play (usually that of researcher)

2 Actor Michael J. Fox. Mr. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease several years ago. Proclaiming, “The fight against Parkinson’s is winnable,” he established the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, which is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's through aggressively funded research, particularly stem cell research.

3 All-time boxing great Muhammad Ali. He also suffers from Parkinson’s Disease. He recently helped establish the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Research Center in Phoenix, Arizona, dedicated to research, including stem cell research.

4 Christopher Reeve, the most famous movie Superman. In 1995, while riding, he was thrown from his horse and became paralyzed from the neck down. Today Mr. Reeve is a lobbyist who lets his paralysis play on the feelings of politicians while testifying before them to increase public funding for spinal cord injury research, especially stem cell research.

5 Actor David Hyde-Pierce and Patti Davis, the daughter of former President Ronald Reagan (left). They celebrated the opening of a research facility in Philadelphia that will use stem cell research to study Alzheimer's disease, which President Reagan has been battling since the late 1980’s.

6 Rock singer Bono, seen here introducing Nelson Mandela during the 2003 Special Olympics, wants governments to fund stem cell research, which would help prevent the disabilities seen in many Special Olympics athletes.

7 In 1999 T.V. talk show host Montel Williams was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis after many years of misdiagnosis. Saying, “We may be ill, but we’re not weak,” he has established the Montel Williams MS Foundation, dedicated to MS research, including stem cell research.

8 Comedian-actor Richard Pryor was diagnosed with MS in 1986. As a crusader for animal rights, he wants scientists to stop using animals in research and concentrate instead on techniques such as stem cell research.

14 The fourth part of a WebQuest is the RESOURCES:  it provides the students with teacher-chosen websites (and any additional sources) that are appropriate to the research project at hand

15 The fifth part of a WebQuest is the EVALUATION:  it shows the students, in the form of a detailed rubric chart, how their work will be graded  it shows the students exactly which standards will be met by the project

16 The sixth part of a WebQuest is the CONCLUSION:  it recaps for the students what they have learned by doing the WebQuest  it may point the students in the direction of the next area of study
