8 Advantages of automatic bibliographical tools (cont’d)
If you change the document, the bibliography changes itself automatically The bibliography is always complete The format of the bibliography can be changed automatically as needed You can also use the bibliographical tool for searching for particular kinds of entries

9 Available Bibliographical Tools
Some are very extensive, but also very expensive: e.g., EndNotes Some are very cheap, but not very good... Some are free, but might not run on the same kind of computer that you have (e.g., BibTex) Some are ‘just right’: i.e., reasonably powerful, not too expensive.

10 The automatic bibliographical tool Bibliographica (O. Winkelhake)

11 Using automated bibliographical tools
Add your bibliographical entries into a ‘bibliographical database’ either by hand, or by ‘importing’ Prepare your manuscript using a word processor such as Word, but using the special citation keys of the bibliographical tool Just when you want to make a final version of your document, tell the bibliographical tool to make a bibliography

12 The role of the bibliography tool
WORD PROCESSOR BIBLIOGRAPHICAL TOOL WORKING TEXT TEXT BIBLIOGRAPHICAL ENTRIES

13 Document before the automatic bibliography tool has run

14 Document before the automatic bibliography tool has run

15 Document after the automatic bibliography tool has run

16 Document after the automatic bibliography tool has run

17 ... with the following appended

18 The important rule when using automatic bibliographical tools
Never make any content changes in the document with the automatically produced bibliography in it!!! This document is only to print... if you make any changes in it, these will be lost next time you make a new version with a revised bibliography.
