2 Abstract המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות High speed digital systems laboratory 2 A result collaboration between the Physics Lab and the HS DSL. The project's aim was to develop an electronic card capable of measuring the momentum of the carts being used in an experiment. The solution was a PCB that consists of FPGA technology for sampling and computing the data measured by the sensors, and a USB communication module for transferring the sampled data to a PC. A Visual C++ application supplies a user's interface, and manages the communication with the USB port from the PC side. Cyclone FPGA USB Communication Unit Data PCB 2 Optical Sensors Control

3 System description המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות High speed digital systems laboratory 3 The new system consists of: Two Optical Sensors –The signals from the sensors enables us to calculate the cart's position. A Printed Circuit Board that consists of the following main parts: Cyclone FPGA - Programmed to determine the direction and position of each cart, and controls the data transmission between the card and the PC. USB transmit/receive adapter, with a T/R FIFO buffer - The calculated data from the FPGA is sent to the USB FIFO adapter and from there to the PC by a standard USB cable. Software application- runs on a PC and acts as the user's interface.

A user’s application which allows the user to determine the time between the samples and the beginning of the exp.
