3 A symbol of your country The castañuelas The “castañuelas” are a Spanish percussion instrument. They are used in Andalusian folklore. Tapping both castanets together with your hands, sound is created. Many registers can be achieved by moving your fingers in various ways.

4 Where are you? Spain is in the south-west of Europe. Its borders are the Bay of Biscay, the Mediterranean sea, the North Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees. It borders with France and Portugal.

5 How’s the climate? The temperature in Spain is, in the interior, hot in the summer and very cold in the winter. On the coast, in winter it is less cold and more humid that in the interior, and in summer it is hotter.

6 Capital / population The capital of Spain is Madrid. The population of Spain is 40.217.413

8 A landscape that you love In Spain there are beautiful beaches and impressive mountains. In summer you can relax in one of our warm beaches. In winter you can amuse yourself skiing.

9 A product of your country The wine is a typical Spanish drink. There are many types of wine. It is good to drink a glass of wine with meals. Doctors recommend it!

10 A recipe from your country 2 c Sliced onions 1 Clove garlic; crushed 1 1/2 c Chicken stock 1 c Uncooked white rice 1/2 ts Turmeric ds Pepper 1 1/2 c Cold water 4 md Carrots; diced 1 Sweet red pepper; diced 10 oz Peas; thawed 1 1/2 c Boiling water 2 Tomatoes; cut in eighths Parmesan cheese; optional Soften onions and garlic in stock in a Dutch oven. Add rice, turmeric and pepper; mixing well. Add remaining broth and cold water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer 20 minutes. In a large skillet, combine boiling water, carrots, pepper and peas. Cook until carrots are tender. Add to vegetable mixture along with tomatoes and simmer 5 minutes, covered. Serve sprinkled with Parmesan, if desired.
