Its services are solicited by customers and contractual partners in industry, the service sector and public administration Roughly two thirds of the Fraunhofer revenue is derived from contracts with industry and publicly-financed research projects

8 Ankara, 11 October 2005 The German R&D System: Research Organisations: Helmholtz Gemeinschaft Helmholtz has been commissioned with performing long-term research goals that contribute substantially to answering the grand challenges of science, society and industry. The 15 Helmholtz research centres perform research in six core fields: Energy, Earth and Environment, Health, Key Technologies, Structure of Matter and Transport and Space Example of Helmholtz Research Centres: Forschungszentrum Jülich (Research Centre Jülich), with more than 4200 staff; 1100 scientists, 400 doctoral candidates, 150 Diplom candidates and 350 trainees

They cover humanities and education, economic and social sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, and environmental research www.wgl.de based on BuFo 2004

11 Ankara, 11 October 2005 The German R&D System: Research Organisations: Funding opportunities provided in cooperation with Leibniz Gemeinschaft Leibniz-DAAD-Scholarships open to highly motivated and qualified graduates, Ph.D. students and Postdocs aiming to carry out research at one of the participating Leibniz Institutes. Candidates should be aware of the research profile of possible host institutes. for a period from 12 to 36 months possible to gain a doctorate in Germany Applications to the relevant diplomatic missions of the Federal Republic of Germany or to the DAAD regional offices. Deadline: 15 January 2006

13 Ankara, 11 October 2005 The German R&D System: Funding Organisations: Humboldt Foundation Promotes German and foreign postdocs, international research cooperation and an active world-wide network of scholars AvH grants Research Fellowships, Research Awards and Return Fellowships to highly qualified scientists and scholars from all countries and disciplines Since 1953, AvH has sponsored more than 20,000 scientists and scholars from over 130 countries www.avh.de

14 Ankara, 11 October 2005 The German R&D System: Funding Organisations: Humboldt Foundation Humboldt Research Fellowships for Postdocs resident outside Germany: to carry out research projects of their own choice in Germany for research stays of at least 6 and at most 12 months (extension of up to 24 months possible) for researchers of all nationalities and disciplines application at any time no quotas for individual countries and disciplines up to 600 fellowships per year

15 Ankara, 11 October 2005 The German R&D System: Funding Organisations: Humboldt Foundation Humboldt Research Fellowships for Postdocs resident outside Germany: Researcher needs to identify academic host in Germany, and agree details of research projects and schedules prior to submission of applications (including research plan) Languages: English in Natural and Medical Sciences and Engineering, German in Humanities and Social Sciences Funding between €2,100 and €3,000 per month Additional costs that may be covered include: Contribution to health insurance, travel expenses, German language course, allowances for spouses and children, conferences and travel allowances
