January 2013 - Collaborative Working Group established Multiprofessional group arranged to address issues Identified historical risk management approaches AHP challenge the status quo Open culture – autonomy/trust to deliver change Agreed smarter use of our resources

4 @DMoores_SSSFTahp.sssft.nhs.uk What did the Occupational Therapists do? Call to Action! “Smarter use of resources” Pilot use of AT in cognitive impairment inpatient units Evaluate Stakeholder perspectives Make Recommendations Deliver Assistive Technology CQUIN 2013/14

Ownership of data and potential outcomes Low skills/knowledge base in house Partnership working essential – Council, local telecare providers, integrated equipment stores Raise Awareness of Telecare/Telehealth Staff reviewed range of AT products Staff selection – MyAmego MyLife software Just Checking (Community )

7 @DMoores_SSSFTahp.sssft.nhs.uk What were our outcomes? Positive evaluation report - £95k pa – 1 patient Personalised care packages Staff prompts/reminders Released staff capacity

Culture change not “add on” Clear policies/operating procedures required Staff to regularly review the use of the AT with service users/cares/families 3 staff per ward AT experts – cover shifts System not being used to full potential Wearing fobs can be a problem ALL staff need to be trained before implementation Ongoing support for staff/wards

9 @DMoores_SSSFTahp.sssft.nhs.uk What happens next? Dementia ward – April 2015 - default position to wear fob Psychiatric Intensive Care – currently looking at other AT systems Forensic Mental Health Service- currently looking at other AT systems One AT system does not suit all needs
