Web 2.0 Project Exploration of the process to develop occupational therapists’ knowledge of and skills in the use of Web 2.0 tools

Session aims What are Web 2.0 tools? Reflections on learning in this project Have a look at group blogs Del.icio.us – have a go!

What are Web 2.0 tools? Web 2.0, a phrase coined by O'Reilly Media in 2003[1] and popularized by the first Web 2.0 conference in 2004[2], refers to a perceived second generation of web-based communities and hosted services — such as social-networking sites, wikis and folksonomies — which facilitate collaboration and sharing between users. O'Reilly Media titled a series of conferences around the phrase, and it has since become widely adopted.O'Reilly Media2003[1][2]generationhosted servicessocial-networking siteswikisfolksonomies the transition of websites from isolated information silos to sources of content and functionality, thus becoming computing platforms serving web applications to end-userswebsitesinformation siloscomputing platformsweb applicationsend-users (Wikipedia)

Reflections What did I learn…  Tried new technology in “safe” learning environment  Similar to when learning about www and emails!  Useful tools for creating and promoting an occupational therapy presence on the www  Useful tools for liaising and connecting (social networking) with others  SO many resources out there  Pros and cons, as with all technology

Group blogs They look SUPER impressive but are actually pretty easy to create…maintaining them is another matter (who watches Shortland Street?)
