3 OTM Mission The mission of OTM is to provide 3rd-6th grade girls who have an interest in basketball a more competitive basketball league than a typical “rec” league. OTM aims to provide a venue for the girls to build their technical basketball skills and sportsmanship in a friendly but competitive atmosphere and to prepare the girls to play basketball at the junior high and high school level.

4 Eligibility Rules Team Player Age Requirements
Public schools – all players must attend a public school or reside within the high school boundary of team for which they play Private schools – all players must attend that school “Non eligible teams” – in past OTM has allowed teams to play in OTM that do not otherwise meet eligibility requirements. These teams do not play in year-end tournament and their games do not count toward final regular season rankings Player Age Requirements 3rd Grade – born on or after 9/1/03 and be in 3rd grade or lower 4th Grade – born on or after 9/1/02 and be in 4th grade or lower 5th Grade – born on or after 9/1/01 and be in 5th grade or lower 6th Grade – born on or after 9/1/00 and be in 6th grade or lower Players can play “up” Coaches/Assistant Coaches Must agree to background check See Volunteer Selection Criteria on OTM website for crimes that preclude person from being OTM coach or assistant coach

5 Rules of the Game Goal Height Free Throw Distance
3rd Grade – 8.5 foot goals 4th Grade – 9 foot goals 5th/6th Grade – 10 foot goals Press – press not allowed if team ahead by 20 pts or more 3rd Grade – final two minutes of 2nd and 4th quarters and OT 4th Grade – anytime in 4th quarter and OT 5th/6th Grade - anytime Clock 4 eight minute quarters Overtime – 2 minutes; after 2nd OT – sudden death Clock runs continuously (except for time outs and free throws) except for last two minutes of 2nd and 4th quarter and OT (stops on every whistle) 3 Point Shot – allowed in 5th and 6th grade Team Responsibilities - Home Team provides scoreboard operator; Visiting Team keeps and provides official “book” Coach Technical Foul – Coach or assistant coach will have to sit out next game if receive a technical foul (sit out next two games if receive two technical fouls). Can be in gym but cannot sit on team bench. Full copy of rules available on OTM website Free Throw Distance 3rd Grade – 10 feet 4th/5th Grade – 12 feet 6th Grade – 15 feet

Shades Valley Elementary – Hoover (off Alford Avenue & I-65) Green Valley Elementary – Hoover (behind Krispy Kreme on Hwy 31) 5th/6th Grade Old Berry Middle School – Hoover (on Columbiana Road) Briarwood Church – Vestavia (Acton Road & I-459) Homewood Middle School – Homewood (on Valley Avenue) Note – if anyone has ideas/contacts for additional gym space, please let me know.

8 Referees Cahaba Basketball Officials Association (“CBOA”)
Will be 3rd year calling Girls OTM game Representative – Scott Mitchell Referees have complete discretion/control of game!! Up to coaches to talk with referees prior to start of game Make sure referees understand grade-specific OTM rules Make sure coaches understand referees’ plan for calling the game Call or OTM Commissioner any time to give feedback (good or bad) on referees.

9 Team Registration Forms (all available on website):
1) Parental Waiver, Consent & Release form for each player 2) Team Roster Form with birth certificates attached for players new to OTM (have last year’s birth certificate if played OTM last year) Fees: $450/team (make check payable to “Girls OTM Basketball League”) Background Checks: All coaches/ assistant coaches must complete background check. 10 Timing December 1 Team registration forms due
December 9 First draft of schedule and team lists/contact information sent to coaches December 16 Feedback deadline for schedule/changes to team contact list December 23 FINAL schedule and team list released
