9 History of earthquakes in Iran  In the 20th century alone, 20 major earthquakes claimed more than 140,000 lives, destroyed several villages and cities and caused extensive economic damage to Iran. 9

10 History of earthquakes in Kerman province  An earthquake with 6.9 magnitude on Richter scale in 1981 with 3000 death and many injuries.  Another earthquake in 1981 with 7.3 magnitude on Richter scale in 1981 with 1500 death and 1000 injuries. 10

11 Earthquake of the capital: The major concern  Tehran, the capital city of Iran, lies over at least five or six major fault lines.  My house is just over one of them!! 11
