2.  Earthquakes have had a large impact on society and families over the years, they have caused damage to, many homes, rendering people homeless. Many people have either died or been injured due to earth quakes, from the year of 1900 – 2005 there has been a total of 2061 earthquakes.  That results to an average of 19.4 magnitude 7.0 and greater earthquakes per year.

3.  Basically put. an earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves, above the mantle yet below the crust is where the Tectonic plates are found. These tectonic plates move only an inch a year yet cause large impact on the crust. Earthquakes are recorded with a seismometer, also known as a seismograph. The moment magnitude of an earthquake is conventionally reported, or the related and mostly obsolete Richter magnitude, with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly imperceptible and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas.

4.  the earthquake I will be focusing on is an earthquake which occurred in the year 2008, may 12. A most devastating day for china.  Quick facts:  An earthquake with a death toll amounting to 68,712 people, and more than 374,000 injured.  China, Sichuan province  Cost to repair damage : 1 trillion yen ( approx $146.7billion)  Over 15 million people have been living in the area of the earthquake  Deadliest earthquake to shake china since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake  4.8 million people left homeless

6.  Overall I believe that the Sichuan earthquake was a devastating blow to the society of Sichuan and its economy, many people were hurt and injured and the cost of repairs also hit china hard.  The approximate time needed for repairs was 3 years.
