2 What is BITSAA Silicon Valley BITSAA Silicon Valley BITSAA Silicon Valley is the San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the BITS Pilani Alumni Association –Membership to BITSAA Silicon Valley is open to all BITS Pilani Alumni, Students and Faculty residing in the San Francisco Bay Area –Membership to the BITSAA Silicon Valley mailing list is open to all BITS Pilani Alumni, Students and Faculty worldwidemailing list * “BITS Pilani” includes the BITS Pilani, Goa and Dubai campuses as well as Distance Learning Program graduates

3 Plan 2006 BITSAA Silicon Valley’s 2006 Objectives 1.Facilitate and Create an environment to help BITSians in Silicon Valley to become successful entrepreneurs or corporate executives 2.Connect alumni with BITS Pilani to leverage each others’ strengths

4 Mentorship Program A program coordinated by BITSAA SVC to be extended to other chapters after initial success Bring mentors and mentees together Advice from more experienced “seniors” Timeline –Launch Mentorship program by February 2006 –Three month, six month checkpoint meetings from there on 2006 Goal –Sign-up one hundred (100) mentees interested in entrepreneurship or executive positions –Sign-up fifty (50) mentors

5 Entrepreneurship Program For BITSians who want to be Entrepreneurs but have no idea –Educational Talks by experienced Alumni on what it takes to start your own company –2006 Goal Enable three such educational events in 2006 For BITSians who have an idea and are ready to start their company –Provide a forum to find suitable business partners –Facilitate business plan evaluation –Connect such BITSians to BITS Pilani so that they can leverage the latest Technology Incubation Facility at BITS –Meetings with Venture Capitalists –2006 Goal Enable one such BITSian startup in the valley

6 Giving Back to BITS Alumni Visiting Faculty at BITS Pilani –Augment current faculty Augment education Bring in exposure for students –Format Duration: from 2 days up to 4 weeks Guest lectures, workshops and extensions of existing courses BITS will pay for transport from Delhi, accommodation and food –2006 Goal Sign up twelve (12) alumni to visit Pilani during their India visit

Emerging Ph.D. topics for BITS students –Educate BITS students and faculty about leading-edge research topics –Use videos, web conference and other technologies for delivery lectures and content –Guidance by alumni in research in addition to BITS research guide –2006 Goal: Identify twelve (12) potential topics and make videos of six (6)

BITS Practice School –First PS-II in Bay Area: Courtesy Vijay Pathak, CTO Kawasaki Microelectronics Kaushik Narayanan, a final year student of BITS is currently doing a double-sem PS at Kawasaki Electronics in San Jose, CA –BITSAA Silicon Valley would coordinate opening of more Practice School stations in the Bay Area –2006 Goal: Identify six (6) companies as potential PS-II stations Facilitate two BITS Practice School stations in the Silicon Valley by the end of 2006
