iPad Pilot Program Trying to determine where mobile devices fit into our school system.

Why are we doing this? Improve test scores Introduce new technology to students Prepare students for next generation assessments Engage students Integrate technology in the classroom Develop technology leaders in schools

Pilot Specifics Identify what grade level and schools to conduct the pilot – We chose grades 5, 6, and 9 at Blythe-Bower, CMS, and CHS respectively Identify a group of students – 75 students total – We used three different methods 5 th Grade chose their middle students 6 th grade chose random students 9 th grade chose at risk students

More Pilot Specifics We chose the iPad because of the familiarity of the device with teachers involved. Most teachers already had an iPad or were getting one. We wanted to ensure that students had access to the Internet from anywhere. We chose the 3G enabled iPad 2.

Cost of the Pilot iPads - $529 each Cases (Nashville’s own Griffin Survivor) - $40 each AppleCare+ - $99 Apps – about $30 per student Data Plan (Verizon)- $34 from state contract MDM – about $7500 for 100 users

Securing the Device Create a profile Distribute with MDM Email VPN configuration Distribute apps

Securing the Internet Demo Create account on firewall Download mobile config file Edit in Notepad++ Email to device
