The ‘GO-Snax’ Project We are carrying out ‘market research’ for the Kiddystuff company. We need to analyse and present the information we have collected. Today we are going to record, check and analyse our results from the questionnaires we created earlier.

How could we use ICT to present the information collected on our questionnaires?

An example record (created with information workshop) What are the advantages of using a database to keep our records?

Setting up our datafile Choose fieldnames to match your own questionnaires. Choose the data type to match the possible answers. The ‘size’ is the maximum number of letters or numbers. Keywords are very useful to limit the answers and make data entry quicker.

It is often useful to have ‘other’ as a keyword e.g. chilli flavour?

You can enter and check the information as a ‘table’. This is useful to check you have entered the information accurately.

Some people prefer the ‘record’ card display as you can see all the replies from person at once. This would be more useful if you were entering information directly in to the datafile

Create your datafile and enter the data. Choose fieldnames to match your own questionnaires. Choose the data type to match the possible answers. The ‘size’ is the maximum number of letters or numbers. Keywords are very useful to limit the answers and make data entry quicker.

You will want to show the results of your survey as part of the ‘market research’. You may want to show the most popular sizes or flavours, how often pupils buy snacks, whether boys have different preferences to girls, how much pupils are willing to spend, whether they think about health issues etc

Graphs may be saved using file > export graph They may be copied using edit > copy

Using the datafile Searches could be used to look at just males or females Sorts may be used to look for patterns in the information.

Any conclusions? What have you found out that would help design a new sweet. Can you show your results clearly with graphs, numbers or lists? Why is it important for your ‘data’ to have been entered accurately? Start to think about the snacks you are going to suggest. Think of a better name than ‘GO-Snax’
