What is a database? It is a collection of information, which can be searched and sorted. It can be information about anything. Toys, pupils, pets, cars etc. Website search engines, Google and Yahoo, are databases.
What makes up a database? Databases are made up of of a series of records containing information.
Each individual record is made up of fields Information that is entered for each field can be either text or numbers
Records can be added into a database one at a time to make a file.
Databases contain a search tool to find specific information Search tool This search is for pupils with brown hair
Databases contain a sort tool, which can sort data. AlphabeticallyNumerically
Fields can be chosen to create bar and pie charts.
What are the advantages of using a computer based database? Huge amounts of information can be stored safely. Information can be searched and sorted accurately and quickly. Fields can be chosen to create bar and pie charts. Records can be easily added or deleted.
