www.hudsonresourcing.com Get a Better Job! How to get the best from the internet & recruitment firms Paul Taylor Head of IT&T Hudson Global Resources

www.hudsonresourcing.com The good news is … …we no longer have to walk the streets going from agency to agency

www.hudsonresourcing.com Which means …. the Internet has arrived!

www.hudsonresourcing.com First Steps – Use the job boards recruiters use About 90% of all job board vacancies come from recruitment agencies, look for the leading sites where agencies advertise. Don’t forget if you have niche skills there maybe a specialist site that works best for you.

www.hudsonresourcing.com What next? Most people use a job board like a video, it has many features to make searching for an opportunity easier but many candidates just use the play and record buttons. What features can help you get to the recruiters? Don’t just search for jobs, set up search agents so that jobs find you Post your CV onto the job boards database, many recruiters have access to these databases and set up their own search agents No matter what you are doing on the internet, use lots of key words and industry jargon, never abbreviate i.e. BA/PM Refresh your CV as your career progresses and be as descriptive as possible Fill in all of the criteria If possible don’t make your details confidential Many agencies advertise using banners and logo links, if you want to find out about the agency click on these and they take you straight to them

www.hudsonresourcing.com Continued Success Don’t forget to monitor the success of your on-line campaign, if it isn’t working tweak or change your searches or updated your CV. Ask agencies why they came to you because you can then see what works Plan your search and get organised – Looking for work is a job in itself!

www.hudsonresourcing.com Recruitment on the Web - Statistics Two thirds of internet users (aged 25-34) use the web for job seeking* Over 1,000,000 CV’s are on top 5 UK sites 600,000 people a month look online for a job** More than 100,000 jobs posted on careers hubs in the UK * NOP study (UK), June 03 ** NNR Pivot Report Oct 03

www.hudsonresourcing.com Why online recruitment works Easier for the job seeker… Works infinitely more quickly and more targeted on-line than off-line, with potential for a much broader scope of jobs geographically …and much more cost efficient for the employer! Guardian – 400,000 per issue One major Joboard – typically 150,000 specific job searches per day Guardian – £17,000 full page, run of press, one off Job board typically £4 (7 day life)

www.hudsonresourcing.com How Job boards make money Sales of job postings on site to recruitment consultancies and direct employers alike Charge employers to search their CV databases – in some cases these can have over 250,000+ candidates Selling advertising space i.e. Banners / company profiles Actually power an agencies career site and applicant tracking systems

www.hudsonresourcing.com On-line Recruitment – The Future Job ads moving from newspaper to Internet Companies need to be cost efficient in hiring, particularly during a down economy 25% of FTSE 250 companies have no jobs area on their corporate web site; another 25% only rudimentary job postings with no apply online/db NHS and local government need to address hiring needs locally and globally

www.hudsonresourcing.com Next Century? No Now The Future is in the Data – better matching to get more targeted, quicker short lists Capture job seekers’ hard data (CVs) and soft data (ideal company, corporate structure, type of job, comp structure, etc. Automate the matching process intelligently
