4.  The third song that we listened to was the Mexican hat dance by El Jarabe Tapatio.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-Rqdgna3Yw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-Rqdgna3Yw  Our opinion on this song was that it has a very nice sound and it made you want to get up and dance.

5.  Cinco de mayo is one of the many festivals that is held in Mexican communities.  Mexico is the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world.  Cinco de mayo is often confused with the Spanish Independence Day which is on September 16.

6.  The largest Cinco de mayo event is held in Los Angeles where more then 600,000 people attend.

7.  Cinco de mayo means the fifth of May.  It is celebrated by Mexican communities because in 1862 it was one of the battles between the French and Mexicans.  It is known as the battle of Puebla.

8.  It was the turning point in Mexican national pride.  It is a local holiday in Mexico  People throughout the United States celebrate it.

9. Cinco de mayo recipe for rice Ingredients: 4 Tablespoons butter (can substitute olive oil) 1 medium sized onion (larger will make rice more flavorful) 1 1/2 cups rice 1 can (2 cups) chicken broth 1/2 teaspoon turmeric Salt and Pepper to taste CONTINUES ->

11. Ingredients: 1 (16 ounce) can black beans 1 small onion, chopped 1 clove garlic, chopped 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper salt to taste

12.  Directions In a medium saucepan, combine beans, onion, and garlic, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low. Season with cilantro, cayenne, and salt.
