1. Year 10 An Inspector Calls

2. Learning Objective  To understand how to construct an analytical essay.  Success criteria:  Everyone will have part of an essay response – some will have a mindmap, some will have a plan and some will have a PEE paragraph.

3. Recap – no cheating: books closed!  What can you remember about Act One events?  Act Two?  Mr Birling?  Mrs Birling?  Gerald?  Sheila?  Inspector Goole?  Tension in the play? Challenge: Think about the way it has been written.

4. Talking Points – Remember the rules?  1. The younger generation are more open minded than the older generation and have a greater sense of right and wrong.  2. People should always be honest with each other: regardless of consequences.  3. Families should stick together at all costs.

5. Honest opinion of your ability… No Coasters, remember!  How confident do you feel to try and answer this question:  How does the writer present and develop the character of Sheila in Act One and Two?  Definitely? Very? Kind of? Not very?

6. Three minutes – sort yourselves into groups of 4 with the same confidence level  I’m now going to give you a task to complete in your groups – support and guide each other.  Working towards an essay based assessment: similar in style to this question. Developing skills and analysis.

7.  Can you stretch yourselves towards the next stage?  Has your confidence developed?  Do you feel more secure in your ability to analyse a character?

8. STEAL  Stand up.  Have a walk around the tables – and use the washing line – and skim through the comments people have made/completed.  Steal at least one idea and write it down.
