2. Geography The Apache and Comanche dominated both the Central Plains, the Great Plains, the sub regions of the High plains, Edwards plateau, and the Rolling Plains.

4. Government The Apaches, and Comanches had no leader unless they were at war. During a battle, Comanche or Apache warriors followed the orders of the best fighter in the tribe.

5. Lifestyle The Spanish introduced horses to many of the Pueblo Indians. These horses were known as mustangs. The Plains Indians acquired horses, and the knowledge of how to handle them, through trade with the Indians of the Southwest. Horses and buffalo were indispensable to the Plains Indians. Without them their way of life could not have emerged, and in their absence it could not survive.

6. Lifestyle These tribes loved to raid (steal) from their neighbors. They were expert fighters and horse thieves. Though Comanches never settled down, there were some Apaches who settled down The Apaches did some farming, although they would still raid and steal from time to time

7. Clothing Both tribes wore clothes made from bison and deer hides. Bison robes kept them warm in the wintertime

8. Weapons The Plains Indians used several weapons including bows, war clubs, tomahawks, spears, and knives.

9. Home The Plains Indians slept in portable houses called teepees. Teepees were made from bison hides and wooden poles. These homes were big enough to fit several family members and a fire in the middle.

10. Food The American Bison was the primary source of food for Plains Indians. They used every part of the animal. They also gathered berries and hunted deer and other small animals.

11. Interesting Facts Plains Indians had coup sticks, this was used to prove bravery in battle. One would try touch the enemy with the coup stick and get away without being killed this was considered an extreme form of bravery. They also took scalps from enemies they had killed.

12. Interesting Facts The average Comanche was about 5’3” tall. Their short stature helped them balance themselves while riding horses. There are many decedents of both the Apache and Comanche alive today because they were some of the last Indians to surrender.
