2 Background Sexual Violence: Nationwide interest in ending sexual violence on college campuses New federal requirements for population level prevention Rates of violence remain high and reporting remains low Alcohol Use: Higher than national average

5 Goals of Project AlcoholEdu : Reduce high-risk alcohol use Decrease negative effects from alcohol use Increase retention, graduation rates, and overall success of students Haven : Increase understanding of consent Increase understanding and confidence to engage as active bystanders to stop sexual violence Compliance with Campus SaVE Act Note: These two programs are tools being added to an overall greater effort to reduce high-risk alcohol use and stop sexual violence at Oregon State University

6 Overview AlcoholEdu : Part I: 3 hours, students can start and stop, requires a passing grade of 75% to move on to “intersession” Part II: 30-45 days after completion of Part I; Very brief *EverFi is the only company to have published research to show efficacy Haven : Approximately one hour; no passing grade required Part II: 30-45 days after completion of Part I; Simple survey and messaging

8 Required * Participation AlcoholEdu : All First Year Corvallis based degree seeking students & all student athletes Haven : All new students to OSU (including undergrad, grad, transfer, Ecampus, Cascades), and all student athletes International students will conduct their own in small group education *Required it is not a hard mandate for this year; however, next year there will be consequences for non-compliance

12 What You Can Do Correct misperceptions (e.g., Everyone drinks, people often make false reports of sexual assault, etc.) Inform about high-risk/dangers related to alchol such as alcohol punch, mixing medications and alcohol, and symptoms of alcohol poisoning Look for opportunities to educate, inform, and collaborate Take the “It’s On Us” pledge to stop sexual assault Mentor/coach other students Facilitate referrals Collegiate Recovery Community (@OSU_Recovery, studenthealth.oregonstate.edu/recovery) Support and reporting options for sexual assault Know your responsibilities with regard to sexual assault: http://oregonstate.edu/oei/sexual- harassment-and-violence- policy#employee%20responsibilitieshttp://oregonstate.edu/oei/sexual- harassment-and-violence- policy#employee%20responsibilities
