Soccer European Football
History Soccer is one of the most popular sports in Europe and the Americas. It has a vivid and interesting history in the world of sports. Early evidence of soccer being played as a sport finds occurrence in China during the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. In China, it was during the Han dynasty that people dribbled leather balls by kicking it into a small net. Recorded facts also support the fact that Romans and Greeks used to play ball for fun and frolic. Some facts point to Kyoto in Japan where kicking of ball was a popular sport. It is said that early growth of the modern soccer started in England. Some amusing facts even mention that the first ball used was the head of some Danish brigand. It is said that during medieval times, the old form of soccer used to allow many ill practices like kicking, punching, biting and gouging. The main aim was to carry the ball to a target spot. People grew so fond of the game that they would throng the field all day long. Sometimes the competition grew fierce and masses got so wild that there were frequent incidents of violence during the game. It is also said that soldiers admired the game so much that they missed archery practice to watch it.
SOCCER Soccer is an aerobic sport. Aerobic means exercise that improves the efficiency of the body's cardiovascular system in absorbing and transporting oxygen. Other examples: jump rope, basketball, running, etc.
Dribbling 1. Bend your body on one side. 2. Practice with a smaller ball. 3. Make sure to use all the surfaces of your foot. 4. Touch the ball with each step you take with the ball. 5. Change the pace. 6. Lift up your eyes. 7. Improve your weak foot. 8. Use your body to protect the ball. 9. Be unexpected and surprising. 10. The final tip is to never give up!
PassingPassing: to give the ball to a teammate 1. First you should know how to pass a ball with the inside of the foot. 2. Decide who you are passing to and what direction they are moving. (Lead with your pass/ pass out in front of your teammate) 3. Make sure the person is open and that it is a smart play. 4. Ensure that an opposing player is not in the passing path. 5. Plant foot about even with the ball aiming it toward your target. 6. With the inside of your foot, connect solidly with the middle of the ball. 7. Follow through and bring your leg up. 8. Run after the ball if it did not get to your teammate. 9. Run to the goal if it did!
Trapping 1. As the ball approaches your foot, lift your foot slightly off of the ground. 2. As you are lifting your foot, turn your foot outwards so that it is perpendicular to the direction of the ball. 3. When the ball is just about to hit your foot, move your foot slightly backwards; this will soften the impact between your foot and the ball. 4. Your goal is to cushion the ball with the inside of your foot as best as you can. 5. With a proper trap, the ball should end up right in front of you.
GAME RULES: Game starts by the team w/the jersey kicking off to a teammate at midfield. The player kicking off may not touch the ball until it is touched by another player. Following a goal the defensive team will begin play in this same way. The object of the game is to put the ball into the net equaling one point. Players are in specific positions and change throughout game. The positions are: forward, midfield, defense, and goalie. Only the goalies may use their hands. If another player uses hands, the opposite team gets to kick a penalty kick from the point of infraction. If the ball goes out on the sideline, a player uses a two handed soccer throw to put the ball back into play. Their feet must not cross the line.
Rules continued….. If the ball goes out on the goal, the goalie can kick it from the goal box. If it was kicked out by the defense on the end line, the offense gets a corner kick. A hand ball is called when a player touches the ball with anything out from the shoulder. We have shin guards available for you to wear. Everyone needs to stay off the goals. Your hands should not be Give 100% effort and be a team player. The first team listed when we read the schedule wears jerseys and starts with the ball. The fields are numbered 1 - 4 beginning with the field closest to the school. Captains put the ball in the goal at the end of the game. At the end of class one captain puts the ball away and the other captain turns in the score to a coach. The players stay on the track until a coach tells you to go to the locker rooms.
