3 Edgar Allan Poe was born on January 19,th 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts, and he died on October 19th, 1849. He suffered a difficult childhood due to his parents. His father, David Poe, abandoned him and his mother, Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe, died from consumption. 1.BIOGRAPHY

4 He was the first American to try to live by writing alone Poe’s career began humbly with Tamerlane and other poems, an anonymous collection of poems.

5 BIOGRAPHY The most recurring themes were death, the physical signs, the effects of decomposition, concerns of premature burial, the reanimation of the dead and mourning. But he did not only write death stories, Metzengerstein was the first story published by Poe and it was a satire of the horror genre.

6 On October 3, 1849, Joseph W. Walker found Edgar on the streets of Baltimore delirious. He was taken to the Washington College where he died on October 7. The causes of his dead are a mystery. Poe only said Reynolds and Lord help my poor soul.

12 3. THE TELL-TALE HEART SUMMARY Narrator’ story tell us that he has developed his senses. He lives with an old man who has a clouded, pale, blue vulture-like eye which causes panic. One day, narrator watched that eye’s old man is open and decides to kill him. Then, he hides the corpse under the floorboards. However, the police come due to some noises. The narrator invites them to look around. Suddenly, the main character begins to hear a noise; he is hearing the heartbeat of the old man. The assassin confesses to have killed the old man to police due to noises and reveals the body to them. Narrator’ story tell us that he has developed his senses.
