THE RIGHT STUFF Kathleen Why you were looking for material What you found (contextually-based material that engages students… yadda….) What about the R S was good What you did with it

THE RIGHT STUFF http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/microsites/ostp/pcast-engage-to-excel-final_2-25-12.pdf PCAST (Engaging to Excel: Producing One Million Additional College Graduates with Degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) slams mathematics community.

THE RIGHT STUFF In order to achieve this goal, we must enable an increasingly diverse cohort of students to acquire core mathematical concepts and basic mathematical reasoning. A solid foundation in mathematics is essential for successful STEM education, for this paves the way for flexibility in a changing workforce environment. http://www.ams.org/policy/govnews/pcast-statement

THE RIGHT STUFF In order to achieve the president's goal of greatly increasing the number of well-prepared STEM graduates, heightened efforts need to be made to adjust the curricula of mathematics courses for STEM students so that the material effectively reflects the mathematics that arises in STEM fields

THE RIGHT STUFF Fueling Innovation and Discovery The Mathematical Sciences in 2025 The National Academies Press

THE RIGHT STUFF Kathleen Talk about the piece-wise module from the right stuff

THE RIGHT STUFF Right Stuff material is intended to provide faculty with examples of how to utilize technology, use the rule of four, use the modeling process, and engage students in non-traditional problems.

THE RIGHT STUFF Ideas for new Right Stuff Modules ● Market Basket Analysis (Recommender Theory) – Big Data

THE RIGHT STUFF How Does Amazon Know What You Want?

THE RIGHT STUFF Right Stuff material can often provide faculty with the seed for an idea for their own project.

THE RIGHT STUFF Kathleen How you took an idea from the R S and produced something for yourself
