8 Certificate structure Learners must achieve 17 credits from mandatory units: Stroke awareness Understanding stroke care management Supporting individuals with specific communication needs Supporting individuals with dysphagia

9 Certificate structure Learners must achieve 9 credits from optional units: Understanding the impact of acquired brain injury on individuals Promote person centred approaches in health and social care

10 Stroke Award 3 cohorts completed award at level 2 Award worth 3 credits inline with the Skills for care and Qualification Credit Framework at level 2 Mandatory certificate unit

11 Added value Also completed session to raise awareness of Atrial fibrillation How to detect an irregular heart beat How to report findings appropriately

13 Added value As part of the certificate each learner will have access to a Blood pressure monitor for the duration of the course. Each monitor has been calibrated and numbered

16 Unit aims To gain an understanding of legislation, guidelines and best practice to support stroke care management, explore the effects of stroke on an individual and understand how a person centred approach may support stroke management

18 Supporting individuals with specific communication skills (SCM 303) 5 credits level 3

19 Unit Aims This unit is for those who support individuals with specific communication needs. It provides the learner with the knowledge and skills that address personal interaction and the use of special methods and aids to promote communication.

21 Understanding the impact of acquired brain injury (SCM 205) 3 credits level 2

22 Unit Aims The aim of this unit is to gain knowledge to support people who have an acquired brain injury. It covers both the impact on the individual who has the acquired brain injury and their carers

24 Person centred approaches to health and social care (SCM 314) 6 credits level 3

25 Unit aims This unit is aimed at those working in a wide range of settings. It provides the learner with the knowledge and skills required to implement and promote person centred approaches

27 Supporting individuals to manage dysphagia (SCM 302) 5 credits level 3

28 Unit aims This unit is aimed at those who support individuals who participate in therapy programmers to restore or maintain maximum independence in the management of dysphagia
