Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) What am I? Who am I? Starter: Use the Internet to find out what the word “Genius” means. What a Genius!

Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand Approaches to learning & Area of Interaction AOI: Human Ingenuity (Homo faber) ATL: Collaboration AOI: Human Ingenuity - Every MYP project focus on an area called “Area of Interaction”. The Area of Interaction encourages you to reflect on a certain area. This project focuses on Human Ingenuity which is about human creativity. We look at why and how humans create and the consequences of the creation. We will be analysing a product that a human has created and looking at what changes it has made to us. This is so we can appreciate the designers and those who develop these new technologies. ATL: Collaboration - You will work in a team and must learn to work cohesively. You will need to have meetings to decide what the team will do and then record the meetings.

Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand The design cycle During this year you will complete three projects. All of the projects in technology need to follow the design cycle.

Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand Project overview In this project you will work as a team to create a set of cards about a genius in technology. Someone who has invented and created a product that has transformed our lives. These cards will be displayed to allow others to learn about the different geniuses in technology.

Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand IB Learner Profile Remember that while you are working through this project and all projects in technology you should be trying to develop some skills. The IB profile skills (Risk taker, principled, inquirer, communicator, caring, reflective, open-minded, thinkers, balanced, knowledgeable)

Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand Why are we doing the MYP Preparation for the IB. Develop the ability to work independently and within a team on a project. Develop the characteristics of an IB student to allow you to compete at a global level. Develop the skills required to produce products to address needs in society.

Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand Stage 1: Investigate Overview Investigation is an important part of the design cycle. You need to identity the problem and do some research. Each team member will need to complete these sections. Have a meeting to discuss these sections as a team then complete each stage as an individual. Don’t forget to document the meeting. 1. Problem: What is the problem? Why are you creating these cards? What are these cards supposed to do? Who are you creating the cards for? 2. Research: Research the different countries to find products you might want to research. Make sure that you research at least 8 different products (2 for each team member). Write a paragraph in your own words about each product. Copy and paste the URL that you used for the text and images. As a group, decide which genius you are going to investigate and divide the work amongst team members.

Grade 7 – The Middle Years Programme (IB) Najat Chakar – January 2012 Technology Strand Decide who will be in in your team You will be working in a team to create the cards.
