3 I can describe the purpose of using IT in my work The purpose of using IT is to make consistent, professional documents. I used IT to make a presentation, business card, letter head, newsletter, CV, college application and another business card. I used IT as you can make changes and correct spellings. If you did it on paper, you would have to start again. I used templates to help with layout and to make it professional. I was able to add images, I am not very good at drawing so this would have been very hard. My audience were GCSE students for my presentation, people who like mobile phones and local colleges. I was able to add hyperlinks and a video to my presentation, I can’t do this without IT. I used PowerPoint, Publisher and Word to make my documents.

4 I can describe the methods, skills and resources needed to complete my tasks successfully I needed to use Office to make my documents. I used powerpoint to make my presentation as it is made to make presentations. I have used prezi before but it takes longer. I used publisher to make my documents for Jordan’s phones. This was better than word as publisher is better for layout for newsletters and letter heads as it is easy to add images and put them in good positions. I used word for my CV and application. I used templates so they were professional and I had to fill in the right bits. I had help from the Barclays men with this. I used templates and page designs to make my documents consistent and professional. I did some work on the new office 365 but my Internet at home is rubbish and it’s not as easy as proper office.

5 I can describe factors that might affect the task I used the school computers in AM reg so it was lots of small chunks The computers use a filter so some information was hard to find as mobile phone is banned. I had to change my searches. I saved my work in my U drive and used folders to store it so I could find it again. Mr Farmer explained about naming the files so I made sure they were all relevant. I made my documents professional using Office but I could not work on it at home as I do not have Office. I did some work in the library when I was free. The computers were not as good but they did work.

6 I can describe how the purpose and outcomes have been met by the chosen IT systems and tools The purpose of my presentation was to learn and teach science cells. I made sure there wasn’t too much text as that would be boring. I added a video from YouTube which links to other videos. I included images. I also added animations and transitions to make the presentation better for the GCSE audience. People liked my presentation but they wanted links. The purpose of my newsletter, letter head and business card was to advertise my phone business. I made a logo which was simple and orange which stands out. I used templates and guides to make sure my documents had a house style and were professional. I found doing the newsletter hard as there was so many stories. The purpose of my CV and application is to get me into college and then get me a job. I made a first version and then the Barclays men helped me improve it. We looked at layout, spellings and key terms to sell ourselves. The templates really helped and made it loads more professional. Doing a mail merge saved loads of time.

7 I can describe any legal or local guidelines or constraints that apply to the task or activity Copyright is a law from 1988 which protects work created and put online. I had to keep all the links I used in a source and store. As a school we are protected from this law but it is good to reference the work from the Internet and I should ask permission. I saved all the images and information in my U drive in the correct unit folder. The Internet is filtered so I had to change some of my searched for mobile phones as they were filtered. Mr Farmer showed us Creative Commons so I tried to use that so images had no copyright.

8 I can describe whether the IT tools selected were appropriate for the task and purpose I used Powerpoint for my presentation. It is easier to use than prezi. It is made to build presentations and has lots of templates. I don’t have office at home but we can now use office 365 on the Internet which is good. Adding the transitions and animations was really easy. I used publisher to make newsletter, letter head and business card. I used the same templates and page design which was easy. I don’t know other software to make newsletters as word would be good. Not many people have publisher so this could be a problem but we have it in all the computers so I was able to do work in the library. I used word for the CV, application and business card. I used templates which really helped. The layout was easy and I had to put in my personal information. I used spell check in all my work to check spellings. We looked at saving to PDF to send to people who do not have office.

9 I can assess the strengths and weaknesses in my final work I got Cory and Brandon to look at my work and make comments. Mr Farmer also gave me suggestions. The Barclays men helped with the CV and application which was cool. They showed us their CVs and some bad examples. I wrote about the strengths and weaknesses of each unit in the additional evidence. All my documents used templates so had good layout and I used the same colours for housestyle. I used links for YouTube and inserted images easily. I need to add more links to my presentation and could add another 2 pages to my newsletter. I used spell check to make sure all the documents had good spellings.

10 I can describe ways to make further improvements to my work I could add links to my presentation so the user can find more information. I could add 2 more pages to my newsletter for more stories and information. I could add more detail to my CV but the Barclays men said it was a good start and I can update it next year when I am at college. I used master slide, templates, spell check and got the other students and Mr Farmer to check my work. I could make 2 versions of the documents and then ask the group to choose which one they like the best and why.

11 I can review the benefits and drawbacks of IT tools and systems used in terms of productivity and efficiency Using office made making these documents really fast. It would take me ages to make a newsletter on paper. I can check the spelling and change the colours really easy. I used templates to help with layout and to make them professional. We looked at house style and Mr Farmer checked our work to make sure it was consistent. I don’t have office at home so didn’t do much outside of school. I can do it now on online office but it is not as good as it doesn’t have the same buttons. We used good computers in AM reg but one morning the Internet wasn’t working so we had to go back to registration. I used Google to find things on the Internet and then we saved the links in the source and store. Mr Farer showed us how to find the short link. It is easy to add images and hyperlinks in office. Mail merge made doing the application really easy and now I know how they do the detention letters.

12 I can describe ways to improve productivity and efficiency We signed up to memrise to learn some of the words. We also used 10fastfingers to type faster and spell better. We made the correct folders to save our work which made finding and open work faster. We used mail merge to make the application letter go to all the local colleges. I used templates to help with layout and designs to help with colours. I used vistaprint to make my logo and used Google to find some images. I used spell check to check spellings. I saved my websites in source and store to find them again. This made doing the newsletter easy.
