Many people take no care of their money till they come nearly to the end of it, and others do just the same with their time. –Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Christopher Neighbor – Marking Period 3 Amy Bernard-Mason – Marking Period 4

 Colleges DO NOT see grades for individual marking periods. Your official transcript reflects an overall course grade. Year-Long CoursesSemester Courses 20% MP 133% MP 1 20% MP 233% MP 2 10% midterm33% final exam 20% MP 3 20% MP 4 10% final exam

 Your term grades will not be numerical (78, 94, 86 etc), but alphabetical (A, A-, B+ etc)  All “A”s etc are equal. Whether you technically received 100% or 95% your GPA is the same. Below are how letter grades are tabulated into your GPA A96.5B+88C+78D+68 A-91B84.5C74.5D65 B-81C-71F62  “Rounding” grades is solely at the discretion of the teacher. An 89.99 counts as a B+ unless the teacher decides otherwise. For this course we round grades.5 or higher. Do not expect teachers to round or believe they owe you the points.

 Aspen is used by all NHV teachers to enter your grades.  Teachers expect you and your parents to monitor your grades and contact us with issues.  I will NOT contact your parents about failing or poor grades unless there is an IEP issue.  Do not wait until the end of the marking period to care about your grade.  Do not expect extra credit or make up opportunities from teachers. I personally do neither.  Promptly get extra help if your grade is poor. From myportal.nhvweb.net

 You must bring both your computer and charger to class each day  Be sure all log in IDs and passwords related to school e.g. Quia and gmail are recorded in a planner  You need to keep your computer functional. This class will be near impossible without one.  Here is a link to the Chrome Book handoutChrome Book handout

This course is intended to give you a practical education in the concepts of personal finance and money management. Financial Literacy is a graduation requirement for all incoming freshmen. During the semester we will cover the following units:  career exploration  paycheck and income taxes  planning and money management  savings and investments  credit and debit  risk management and insurance

This class is largely paperless and requires the daily use of a computer. Most work is to be typed and submitted online. All information will be disseminated via Google Docs. You must check your school email daily.

 60% in class projects and work – a list of assignments and points will be given each marking periodlist  20% unit exams – 7 throughout the semester  10% quizzes – approximately 10-12 throughout the semester  10% use of class time – please see next slide

This course of largely self-paced with very little teacher lecture time. As such it is imperative that you utilize class time. You each started this course with 100%. The last day of each week I will update this grade on Aspen to reflect any infractions. -3 points  unprepared without Chrome Book, charger, planner, passwords, paper, pen, or pencil  excessive off-topic conversation during a class period, with warning  not working in a class period -5 points  use of cell phone or receiving audible text/phone call in class  using computer for anything other than assignment e.g. games, pictures  damage to school property including Chrome Book or desk  poor sub report naming particular student -10 points  abusing breaks by regular absence from start of class  being asked to leave class for major disruptions

I am available for extra help one period as well as either before or after school each day. However for before or after school help, you need to schedule an appointment through email or speaking to me.  Resource period (social studies) mods 15-16 – no appointment needed  After school (until 3:00) Monday, Wednesday, Thursday – need appointment  Before school (after 7:15) Tuesday and Friday – need appointment

Physically being in class is integral to doing well. You have the first five minutes of class only to go to the bathroom, your locker or get a drink. Just take a pass and leave quietly. Breaks are not permitted after this time. Students who leave too frequently will lose points.

 I do not accept late homework unless you were sick the day it was assigned. Larger assessments like projects or essays can be handed in up to three days late with -1 point per day (nota bene these assignments are 4-8 points so 1 point is significant).

 DO NOT walk in after an absence saying, “did we do anything?” or “what did I miss?”. Homework is posted on Quia and Aspen. If you need further clarification or information, see me during an extra help time or send an email.  School policy is two days extension for HOMEWORK per day absence.  Quizzes, projects and tests assigned before your absence are due upon returning to school.  If you miss a quiz or test day, you must make-up (a) outside of class-time (b) within a week.  Once “ABS” goes to “0”, work may not be made up.  I will not remind you about work owed. That is what Aspen is for.
