2 WHO A suicide bomber detonated the bomb outside the US Embassy in Lebanon This bomb killed 32 Lebanese employees, 17 Americans, and 14 visitors Eight of the Americans that were killed were CIA employees, including CIA's top Middle East analyst and Near East director, Robert C. Ames, Station Chief Kenneth Haas and most of the Beirut staff of the CIA

4 WHY The Islamic Jihad organization took responsibility of this attack They did not want an imperialistic nation in their country They were also angry that the US had interfered in their civil war

5 EFFECTS US Embassy in Lebanon was moved to East Beruit This location was also bombed in 1984 The families of the victims of the bombing were awarded a large settlement by the US government

6 RONALD REAGAN On April 18 he called the "vicious terrorist bombing" a "cowardly act," saying, "This criminal act on a diplomatic establishment will not deter us from our goals of peace in the region."
