4 Abstrak Literary works can be used to study phenomena of lives for they are the tools through which the writers convey the messages and opinions to the readers about the world surrounding them, and experiences or cases that happened to them. By reading thoroughly, the readers will find some points to be analysed and finally grasp the hidden meanings and take advantages from the knowledge that the literary works concern about. In this analysis, the series stories of Nasreddin are the literary works the author used to convey his idea about intelligence in reasoning represented by the main character in concerning his environment. The intelligence in reasoning in the stories is shown by the action or process of using the ability of thinking, forming opinions, and producing arguments to solve problems. The ways that the main character applied in expressing his intelligence represent the ways that are usually appeared in the children’s behaviours in delivering their thoughts and feelings. Therefore, the objective of this study is to describe the children’s intelligence in reasoning, the factors, and the function of intelligence as implied by the main character in the stories. In this study, the researcher uses the qualitative research to reveal the case comprehensively by analyzing and interpreting all data through the process of data collection and data analysis. In collecting data, the researcher took some references from books, dictionary, and websites. In doing the analysis, the researcher uses the reader response theory in which the ideas which best conform to the text or the text meanings are gained through the interpretive process done by the researcher as the reader. After all data are gathered, the researcher tries to find the children’s intelligence representation in the main character’s behaviour. The results of this research indicate that the stories describe the children’s intelligence in reasoning through the main character’s behaviour and way of thinking such as making humour, signalling case through irony, and applying creativity in solving the problems that are in accordance with the children’s intellectual behaviours. The researcher finds the factors of children’s intelligence in reasoning and its functions that emphasize children’s abilities in conforming themselves to the environments. In conclusion, reading literary works is such a beneficial activity for the reader will find the hidden aspects that the writer wants to convey and take the notes of the literary works values.
