9 Semiconductor manufacturing processes
VOL # 1 Tech News… The 32 nanometer (32 nm) node is the step following the 45 nanometer process in CMOS semiconductor device fabrication. "32 nanometer" refers to the average half-pitch (i.e., half the distance between identical features) of a memory cell at this technology level. Intel and AMD both produced commercial microchips using the 32 nanometer process in the early 2010s. IBM and the Common Platform also developed a 32 nm high-k metal gate process. Intel began selling its 32 nm processors on 7 January 2010, as Core i3, Core i5, and the dual-core mobile Core i7. The 32 nm process was superseded by commercial 22 nm technology in 2012. 10 VOL # 1 Know our e-scientists John Bardeen (May 23, 1908 – January 30, 1991) was an American physicist and electrical engineer, the only person to have won the Nobel Prize in Physics twice: first in 1956 with William Shockley and Walter Brattain for the invention of the transistor; and again in 1972 with Leon N Cooper and John Robert Schrieffer for a fundamental theory of conventional superconductivity known as the BCS theory. The transistor revolutionized the electronics industry, allowing the Information Age to occur, and made possible the development of almost every modern electronic device, from telephones to computers to missiles. Bardeen's developments in superconductivity, which won him his second Nobel, are used in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR) or its medical sub-tool magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In 1990, John Bardeen appeared on LIFE Magazine's list of "100 Most Influential Americans of the Century." John Renshaw Carson (June 28, 1886 – October 31, 1940), who published as J. R. Carson, was a noted transmission theorist for early communications systems. He invented single-sideband modulation. Carson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduated from Princeton University in 1907 with a bachelors of science degree, and attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1907–1908 before returning to Princeton to receive his electrical engineering degree in 1909 and a master of science degree in From 1912 to 1914 Carson was an instructor in Electrical Engineering and Physics at Princeton, but in 1913 was offered a position at American Telephone & Telegraph (AT&T), and in 1914 left the university. VOL # 1 Inspiring Quotations Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. Albert Einstein  No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong. Albert Einstein  Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men. Martin Luther King, Jr. Science investigates religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge which is power religion gives man wisdom which is control. 18 House of 1000 Mirrors S. Madhu (III ECE) .
VOL # 1 House of 1000 Mirrors Long ago in a small, far away village, there was a place known as the House of 1000 Mirrors. A small, happy little dog learned of this place and decided to visit. When he arrived, he bounced happily up the stairs to the doorway of the house. He looked through the doorway with his ears lifted high and his tail wagging as fast as it could. To his great surprise, he found himself staring at 1000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging just as fast as his. He smiled a great smile, and was answered with 1000 great smiles just as warm and friendly. As he left the House, he thought to himself, "This is a wonderful place. I will come back and visit it often." In this same village, another little dog, who was not quite as happy as the first one, decided to visit the house. He slowly climbed the stairs and hung his head low as he looked into the door. When he saw the 1000 unfriendly looking dogs staring back at him, he growled at them and was horrified to see 1000 little dogs growling back at him. As he left, he thought to himself, "That is a horrible place, and I will never go dark there again. All the faces in the world are mirrors. What kind of reflections do you see in the faces of the people you meet? . S. Madhu (III ECE) 13 Milestone Anurag Engg College-ECE-DEPT

19 Your Past, Present & Future
VOL # 1 Your Past, Present & Future An 80 year old man was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his 45 year old highly educated son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window. The Father asked his Son, "What is this?" The Son replied "It is a crow". After a few minutes, the Father asked his Son the 2nd time, "What is this?" The Son said "Father, I have just now told you It's a crow". After a little while, the old Father again asked his Son the 3rd time, What is this?" This time some expression of irritation was felt in the Son's tone when he said to his Father with a rebuff, "It's a crow, a crow". After a while, the Father again asked his Son the 4th time, "What is this?" This time the Son shouted at his Father, "Why do you keep asking me the same question again and again, although I have told you so many times 'IT IS A CROW'. Are you not able to understand this?" A little later the Father went to his room and came back with an old tattered diary, which he had maintained since his Son was born. On opening a page, he asked his Son to read that page. When the son read it, the following words were written in the diary:- "Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My Son asked me 23 times what it was, and I replied to him all 23 times that it was a Crow. I hugged him lovingly each time he asked me the same question again and again for 23 times. I did not at all feel irritated I rather felt affection for my innocent child". While the little child asked him 23 times "What is this", the Father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all 23 times and when 11 Milestone Anurag Engg College-ECE-DEPT

20 VOL # 1 today the Father asked his Son the same question just 4 times, the Son felt irritated and annoyed. So If your parents attain old age, do not repulse them or look at them as a burden, but speak to them a gracious word; be cool, obedient, humble and kind to them. Be considerate to your parents. From today say this aloud, "I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me ever since I was a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on me. ͞They crossed all mountains and valleys without seeing the storm and heat to make me a person presentable in the society today". Say a prayer to God, "I will serve my old parents in the BEST way. I will say all good and kind words to my dear parents, no matter how they behave. . R. Jyothi (III ECE) 12 Milestone Anurag Engg College-ECE-DEPT

21 VOL # 1 10 Ways to be Happy Very few people stop long enough to ask themselves a very important question such as "what do I really want?" Yet, when they do take the time to research, they always come back with the same answer, "I want to be happy!"Happiness is making headlines, selling books and inspiring millions of people. Happy people seem to thrive. They are genuinely more creative and productive in life. Not only that, happy people are healthier people and they enjoy a better life than those that tend to always be grumpy. Here are ten suggestions to stay on the happy side of things. Be less virtual. Spend more of your time with other people than you spend alone. Quality relationships offer you more opportunities to laugh and enjoy yourself.... Show appreciation by counting your blessings and keeping a list of the things you are grateful for daily. Recall every positive experience you encounter during the day, even the small moments. Milestone Anurag Engg College-ECE-DEPT

22 VOL # 1 Think memorable thoughts. Memories of good times with love ones or friends last forever. Be humorous. Don't be afraid to laugh out loud. Release your stress by going to your perfect day in your mind. A place where you always feel calm and happy doing and being your happiest. Be Optimistic. See the glass half full. Always look on the bright side of things. Be creative. Use your creative inner expression. Think back of the things you love to do that seems to make you lose track of all time. Things like painting, dancing, poetry, hiking, etc. Joyful expressions bring happiness. Do good. Show acts of kindness each day, however small it may be, do good. Seize the Moment. Now is the time to celebrate, take someone to lunch, buy those shoes, bake the cake and be happier today! By simply putting on a happy face makes you not only look better but feel better. Smiling actually relaxes your face muscles. When you take the steps to be happier yourself, you are far better able to make others happier too. As, Wayne Dyer says, "there is no way to happiness, happiness is the way!" B.Navya (II ECE) Milestone Anurag Engg College-ECE-DEPT

23 Empower women! Nobody aware of my power,
VOL # 1 Empower women! Nobody aware of my power, Oh! Mighty God, give them some wit shower. Brewing of the witness makes them aware, We are not women mere…. Calling women a weaker sex is libel, Our energies are vital. We are no more inferior, As our strength is superior…. We are the one, who lead men to paradise, And give them the tremendous rise. Oh lord! Would the suffering of women continue to thrive? Women do not reach the pinnacles like men do as they have no wives… Bounded by the society shackles, We have no right to do miracles!! Do not live in ANTIQUITY and OBLIVION, We are your homemakers and country’s responsible civilian Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams have touched the skies, But a common woman needs your attention to rise We make your home “spick” and “span”, Please give us the rights as those given to men… (This poem is a tribute to all those women who possess indomitable spirit and endless determination to achieve all the success; and outstrip the men folk and touch the pinnacles of heights. Henceforth, we should always remember that) “Men would not have taken birth on this Earth If women were not there” So, a “BIG SALUTE” to entire women folk..!! Milestone Anurag Engg College-ECE-DEPT
