Computers at our Library The Barbara Bush library has over 70 computers available for use by its customers. You can also use YOUR laptop at the library to access the internet. A wireless connection is available at this branch for customers to use their laptops to search the online catalog, access the library databases, and use the Internet.
Wi – Fi Connectivity There is no charge for using the Library’s high speed network connection.
High Speed Wi-Fi We recently did a fiber optic upgrade. This upgrade increased communications capacity at Barbara Bush from 1.5 Mb/s to 10 Mb/s SPEED COMPARISONS : Dial-Up Modem 56 Kbps DSL, Cable, T1 1.5 Mbps ( 1500 Kbps ) Previous Library Rate 1.5 Mb/S Library Upgrade 10 Mb/S T3 45 Mb/S
CONNECTION SPEEDS Consider a project that requires downloading a 5 minute movie clip of a lesson on tax forms OR a 5 minute movie clip of actual live footage of the 911 homicide attacks on our citizens. Using a dial-up modem it would take about 15 minutes to download it Using a T1 connection it would take about 30 seconds to download it.
Library Laptops Need a Laptop ? Laptops can be checked out for use inside the libraries for 2-hour loan periods

Class Descriptions Computing Basics : This class covers very basic computing skills, identifying items on your computer, using a mouse and keyboard, basic Windows, virus protection, PC care, etc.
Class Descriptions Internet : This class covers viewing web pages, conducting searches on the Internet, downloading text, files and images and printing. Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers or the ability to use the Windows desktop.
Class Descriptions Participants will learn about creating an address book and how to create, send and receive electronic mail ( ). Prerequisites: Introduction to Computers or the ability to use the Windows desktop.
Class Descriptions Word : Topics include editing, copying and moving text; varying margins on the document and individual paragraphs; character formatting (boldface, underlining, font and size changes); saving and retrieving files; labels; and printing.
Class Descriptions Excel : Topics include cell formatting; text formatting; create worksheets, row and column formatting; using simple formulas; charts; freezing cells;saving; printing
Class Descriptions Powerpoint : A presentation graphics slide program as you have been watching! Create attention- grabbing slides quickly. Great for doing a slide show of family photos or for business / training presentations.
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS Publisher : Great for creating business cards, greeting cards, posters, signs, banners, certificates, newsletters, etc.
