2 What is ZAP?  Zero’s Aren’t Permitted  Lunchtime intervention program developed to hold students accountable for missing assignments  First line of defense in holding students accountable for work completion CPSEL 2,3,4

3 ZAP Vision  ZAP is a program were high expectations are set for all students to maximize their potential. Students will be taught responsibility and organization and be held accountable for completing all assignments. CPSEL 1,2

4 Research  Response to Intervention (RTI) is based upon the assumption that schools cannot wait for struggling students to fall far enough below grade level to “qualify” for help. Instead, schools should develop a systematic, school wide process in which struggling students receive targeted, research-based interventions at the first sign of difficulties. Rick DuFour (2007) CPSEL 2,3,5,6

5 ZAP Procedures  Students missing 2 or more assignments, or 1 large assignment adversely affecting his/her grade is “zapped”  Teacher contacts parent and sends work home on Friday with ZAP form  Student is given the weekend to complete the missing assignments  If work is returned Monday completed, student receives credit and is not “zapped”  If work is not returned Monday complete, student is “zapped” and must attend lunch intervention until the assigned work is completed  Repeat offenders are assigned mandatory before or after school homework club instead of ZAP CPSEL 1,2,3,4
