3 What can you see in this picture? Do you recognise the building? What can you see in this picture? This picture shows the inside of Huntingdon Grammar School. This went on to become Hinchingbrooke School.

4 We are going to focus on how Huntingdon Grammar School changed to become Hinchingbrooke School. You are going to find out what school life was like at 4 different points across the history of the school. In 1970 the school began to take children of all abilities and soon became fully comprehensive. At the same time the school changed its name, and pupils in Year 9 and above moved to new premises in Hinchingbrooke Park and the renovated Hinchingbrooke House. Huntingdon Grammar School was founded in 1565. Among its pupils were Oliver Cromwell and Samuel Pepys. This picture shows the inside of the Grammar School after reconstruction in 1878. On 1 st September 1939 the school opened in a new building on Brampton Road – the same day the war broke out.

What sort of things do you learn about? How long is the school day? 7 What can you expect when you go to Hinchingbrooke School? With the person next to you, write a list of the things you think will be the same at Hinchingbrooke School today in comparison to the periods we have looked at and what you think will have changed. “At first the school seems really big, but you soon settle in and find your way around” “It is really nice to meet new friends and try out new subjects” “Everyone is really friendly at Hinchingbrooke”
