A few features of the website… NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool website provides access to: Report Catalog NIH Data Book Estimates of funding for Research, Condition, and Disease Categories (RCDC) Awards by Location or Organization RePORTER (RePORT Expenditure and Results Tool) …and more!

Reports Frequently Requested Reports Searchable repository of reports, data and analyses. Filters include NIH institutes/centers Portfolios (Intramural or Extramural programs, other) Type of funding (research, contracts, training…) Type of grant (RO1, P30, etc.) Topic NIH Fiscal Year (Oct 1-Sept 30) Variables

Funding Estimates for Research, Condition, and Disease Categories (RCDC) In 2008, through the RCDC system, the new process implements data mining to provide consistency and transparency in the reporting of funded research NIH releases spending reports in major research, condition and disease categories 233 categories ARDS to Youth Violence Spending reports by NIH FY 2008-2013 (Actual and estimates) Can sort table by any column 2009 & 2010 divided ARRA and non-ARRA.

NIH Awards by Location & Organization Web-based tool to determine the total funded to any one location or organization Universities Hospitals Small Business Aggregate data can be downloaded FY 1992-2013 http://report.nih.gov/award/index.cfm

Basics of RePORTER… NIH Research Portfolio Online Reporting Tool Expenditures and Results database replaced CRISP in September, 2009 RePORTER retains all the search capabilities of CRISP yet provides additional query fields, results that can be sorted and downloaded (Excel), NIH funding for each project (Expenditures) and publications and patents resulting from projects (Results) Also includes access to research supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the US Dept of Veterans Administration (VA). Search research projects from past 25 years and access publications and patents resulting from NIH funding (when acknowledged) Results are returned listing project number, title, contact PI, organization, FY, etc., several of which are clickable yielding further details

Newly-funded projects, and revisions to prior awards updated weekly, except... Searching by FY for active projects might include prior years if they are still active or not yet updated Publications and patents are associated with projects, and not a particular year of a project Award costs are for the total (direct + indirect) costs associated with the particular FY searched. Multi-year funded grants Funding prior to FY 2008 slowly added to RePORTER Project terms beginning in FY 2008 determined by data mining tool (prior to FY2008, same as CRISP)
