3 Local Context - Social Care Approx 200 Social Workers (Hillingdon) Adult Social Care budget £96m 6,079 adults were accessing social care services in 2010/2011 (including residential and nursing care). Children and Families budget £40m (Incl UASC) 2,239 children in need at year end

4 Opportunities for Social Work New structure to optimise adults and children’s services Ensuring that skilled professionals are not carrying out work that does not require their level of skills and expertise Ensuring that Team Managers have robust support mechanisms in place to manage their service

10 4. Personalisation – The role of Social Work 'In adult’s and children’s services, social workers are essential to the delivery of personalised services and to achieving better outcomes with children and adults of all ages who need services, support or protection.'

Prevention and Early Intervention Project launched with Planning, Environment, Education, and Community Services and Social Care, Health & Housing called Family Intervention Prevention and early intervention are key to current social policy in the UK Social Workers also have a key role in supporting the most challenging and vulnerable people to access and engage with universal, primary and secondary preventive services
