2 WASH Cluster – Emergency Training D D0 2 Overall Aim To put WASH related diseases into a global and emergencies context and establish key principles for the control and prevention of the most common diseases.

3 WASH Cluster – Emergency Training D D0 3 Specific Objectives To discuss the global burden of disease and those that are environment/WASH related To be able to describe the public health impacts associated with each type of disaster To list the key environment/WASH related diseases in emergencies and describe how they are categorised and transmitted

4 WASH Cluster – Emergency Training D D0 4 Specific Objectives To develop a knowledge of the key prevention and control strategies for the key environment/WASH related diseases To understand how to measure success of WASH interventions To receive key guidance material dealing with some specific environment/WASH related diseases

5 WASH Cluster – Emergency Training D D0 5 Pairs/Group Work Each participant to receive Haiti Earthquake, Situation Report #2 from OCHA and given 15 mins to read Identify the key WASH related diseases, Explain why these diseases are the priority, What additional information they might look for on the health side of an assessment, Propose an action plan with descending priorities 15 mins to read SitRep, think of answers followed by 15 mins of plenary feedback

6 WASH Cluster – Emergency Training D D0 6 Additional Information Additional information that should be sought as part of assessment might include: Current Health Status of the Population including demographical information, morbidity and mortality data (Crude Mortality Rate, Age Specific Mortality Rates and Case Fatality Rates) and risk factors (lack of access to safe water, overcrowded conditions, nutritional status etc.)
