3 21-09-0xxx-00-00003 An MIH Multi-Radio Mobile Node Model for MIH Functions, Power Management, and Handoff Security

4 21-09-0xxx-00-00004 Introduction In order to further investigating the multi-radio power consumption and handoff security, we need to explore more details of mobile nodes. This contribution proposes a reference model of MS for further investigation. This model is a conceptual model for detailed functions and messages to implement MIH functions, power management, and handoff security. The implementation of the conceptual model totally depends on each vendor’s engineering.

6 21-09-0xxx-00-00006 Proposed MS Model The proposed model is a conceptual model for further investigation. The actual implementation is flexible depending on vendors. MN consists of one ApP and multiple BPs with corresponding radios. MIH i is the ith MIH function either in the ith MN or in the ith BS. This MIH function handles all MIH services and information for ith radio and ith network. If handoffs happen within the ith network, the MIH i has the full MIH functions as the MN in the ith network MIH ms is the MIH coordinator for the MN. Its main functions are Communicate with MIH i, such as, message passing, message interpretation, command passing, etc. Communicate with PWC and SCC, such as such as message passing, message interpretation, command passing, etc. Coordinate the vertical handoffs among netowrks Coordinate the power conservation functions among networks and security functions among the networks MIH ms and MIH i can be seen as the decomposition of original MN MIH

7 21-09-0xxx-00-00007 Proposed MS Model PWC is the core controller for MN to carry out the power management for multiple radios. It has the following functions, Monitor and control the radios’ power status; Receive, send, and interpret information from MIH ms ; Decision making to coordinate multi-radio for power management; Coordinate position updating and other necessary function, among multi-radios and their corresponding networks. SCC is the core coordinator for MN to carry out the inter- network security functions. It has the following functions, Receive, send, and interpret information from MIH ms ; Coordinate and exchange authentication and authorization information among multi-radios and their corresponding networks; Manage the MN security, such as private and security data within the MN.
